Real Life

Real life.

I have this habit of thinking life is only happening and meaningful when there is something spectacular going on or to look forward to.

And to be quite honest, it has made me miss out on real life.

I tend to think that if I’m doing the same things daily, my life is boring and I’m missing out on everything.

And to be even more honest, I would wonder, “What’s the point of living when my life isn’t like the movies or what I witness on social media highlight reels?”

This mindset is a sad cycle to be stuck in.

But as I grow in age, I am realizing more and more the true meaning of real life.

Not just the true meaning of it, but the importance of embracing it as well.

The true meaning of life

Life isn’t about the fancy car.

Life shouldn’t only feel worthy of living when your calendar is filled with exciting, upcoming events.

It’s not about the number of likes you get on a post, or the amount of followers you have.

It’s none of those things.

It’s quite the opposite, actually.

Real life is happening as you wait impatiently in that long line at the grocery store.

Real life is happening when you feel weary from your toddler throwing their thirtieth tantrum this week.

Real life is about those sleepless nights with your growing newborn.

Real life is happening right now, as you read this blog post.

(Did I just make you have a “Oh snap, she’s right.” realization?)

Embrace it – Live it

Allow yourself to embrace those hard moments.

Pay attention to how your soul feels during those seemingly mundane days.

Don’t wait until tomorrow, or when you land that dream job.

Inhale. Exhale.

Enjoy right now.
