Dear Body, I hate to say this but…

Dear body,

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for all the built up years of hatred and unacceptance.

I strived to change you instead of embracing who you are and what you can do.

All the constant stress and punishment, you didn’t deserve.

I treated you unfairly and whispered hateful lies, when in reality, you deserve so much kindness.

You do a lot every day just to keep us going.

I can’t count the number of times you held me up on the most challenging days.

I need you.

And from this point on, I will continually choose to appreciate you.

I know how you feel at your leanest state, and I know how you feel when I have fed you to capacity.

But either way, you deserve to be loved, and you will be.

We are in this life together, so I vow to take care of you as best possible.

I may not get it right all the time, but I will keep learning to love you right now, exactly the way you are, and no longer despise you or take you for granted.

Forgive me for the many pinches and pokes I gave you as I stood in the mirror.

And you sure didn’t deserve all the other times I purposely hurried past the mirror to avoid looking at how beautiful you truly are.

I should have never made you feel any less than amazing.

I’m sorry for restricting you from food out of my disgust.

In reality, I should have fed you out of my adoration and love for you.

Because you deserve to be healthy.

We deserve to be healthy.

So, body, as we STRIDE together on this journey of getting comfortable with one another, just know that I won’t mind if you shrink a little.

But most importantly, always remember that I will still love you even if you don’t.

Your retired nemesis, Marie Lewis ♥
