The Chains Are Broken

Bad habits and addictions exist in many different forms; Pornography. Alcoholism. Smoking. Drugs–You name it, it’s there. Many people believe that they can’t stop the bad habit. And many people have tried countless of times. They succeed for a short period of time only for the habit to return sooner than later and become stronger than before. That feeling in itself is enough to leave people feeling defeated. They feel as if the habit will forever be by their side or something they will never have the strength to break Sadly, a lot of people accept that.

But through Christ Jesus, you have the ability to break every chain!

Break every chain (habit) that’s holding you captive. You don’t have to live with something that is bearing bad fruit in your life. Why live with a habit that is causing you pain, anyway? You know you are better off without the habit yet you don’t know what to do to put down the habit for good? Of course you do!

Call out on the name of Jesus and He will help you through your temptations.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

That scripture in itself is SO powerful. Many people will believe that God tempts us (myself included) but that is not true. The Lord only tests us. It is only our own fleshly and evil desires that tempt us. And once we give in to it, it grows and consumes us.

Ask the Lord to see you through those urges. He will help. It does not have to be a long, drawn out prayer either. It can be something as simple as “Lord, please help me not to watch pornography tonight. I know the temptation to do so will be there, but I am leaning on You to help me through and succeed.”

Believe what you ask for and it shall be received! Watch God work through those urges and help you resist temptation.

I have a personal history of a bad habit, which I will touch more on in a later blog. I tried getting rid of it for YEARS. Most times I would succeed at putting it down but it only lasted for a month or so. It wouldn’t be long before I picked the habit back up. Doing that only made breaking the habit harder each and every time.

What has helped me break the habit for good is listening to Joyce Meyer’s sermon on “My Heart…Christs Home.” (which can be viewed Here) Her sermon really inspired me to do what is best for me, my health, and most importantly—God! She talks about Christ living within you and how He needs to be comfortable within your body. He is not comfortable watching pornography with you. He is not comfortable when you fill your lungs with toxic smoke. And He definitely is not comfortable when you are clouding your mind with drugs.

Make Him comfortable by breaking those chains that are holding you captive! He gives you the power to endure that temptation and overcome it, so use it. Don’t give the excuse of “Well, I have tried and failed many times, so I have to accept this bad habit as a part of my life.” Don’t do that! That is only what the enemy wants you to believe.

Stand firm. Trust and believe. And those chains WILL BE BROKEN!

  2. He is always waiting for us to call out to Him. But we sometimes try to do it within our own strength. Which a set up for FAILURE!!! He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. We just have to ask. Thanks for the encouragement today. I will have to listen to the Joyce Meyer’s sermon this weekend. Be Blessed……….. So glad to see you back on Instagram!!
