How to Reduce Belly Fat

Here’s the blog we’ve ALL been waiting for! 😉 To make everything simple, I will keep things short, sweet, and straight to the point (see what I did there lol) So…let’s get to it, shall we?

First thing first…

Let me be as clear as possible…You cannot spot reduce. Meaning, you can’t pick one area of your body to lose fat and ignore everything else. You have to lose fat overall. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s just not possible. You would be surprised by the amount of messages I get daily asking for my “secret” but unfortunately, one does not exist.

Trust me when I tell you I have tried all the ab exercises in the world with nothing to show for it, so please…get the impossible out of your mind. The only thing I found that works is hard work and other things I will list below 🙂

Okay…Now that we have that out of the way, let’s dig in to what WILL work.

  • Abs are made in the kitchen

The fact that I’m using this overused phrase is so corny to me but it could not be any more true. If you didn’t know, nutrition plays a huge role in how much fat you carry. If you eat processed food on the regular, chances are you have a little (or big) muffin top going on there. It’s okay though because that is what we are here to change. In the meantime, throw out the juice, soda, fried and fatty food, sugar, and sweets. You think I’m kidding? Seriously…get rid of it. It will only contribute to the weight gain.

Instead, fill your fridge with lean protein, fruit, vegetables, healthy fats, complex carbs (I will touch on this a little later), and nuts. We have all heard the phrase..”You are what you eat.” So whether you decide you want to look like the pig or the fox is on you.

  • Water, water, water

Drinking “enough” water daily is crucial for good overall health and reducing belly fat. It’s like taking a shower on the inside of your body. Seriously. You would not dare (or at least I hope not) skip your daily shower because it just doesn’t feel good. Well, the same thing applies to drinking water. You just can’t live without it.

When your body is dehydrated, it holds on to everything you drink because it doesn’t know when it will get more H2O. That is when the obnoxious, hard to get rid of, bloating comes in. So drink up. Your body will thank you for it.

To keep bloating at bay and rid yourself of stubborn belly fat, you can aim to drink at least 1 gallon of water daily. I know, I know, that’s a lot but hold your horses. Most people aren’t used to drinking that much water so I’ll be nice by allowing you to start off with something a bit more easier…click here to figure out how much water your body needs daily according to your weight. Chances are, it’s less than a gallon. Once you have that figured out, work towards accomplishing that goal.

  • Allow Yourself to Eat

Tell me if this sounds familiar– “In order to lose weight and reduce belly fat, I must eat 1200 calories or less per day..” If you currently think this way, I’m here to tell you that statement is a myth. Sure, you have to reduce your calories to shed pounds but you are better off reducing it slightly than significantly.

Most people believe cutting their calories a lot will lead to losing a lot of fat and eating more than 1500 calories will lead to weight gain. In reality, it is the exact opposite. Of course, when you limit yourself to 1200 calories or less a day,you will lose weight pretty fast at first but what happens once you hit a plateau? Short will remain on that plateau no matter how hard you try even if you reduce your calories (this is really dangerous, BTW).

Don’t be afraid to eat. Don’t be afraid to increase those calories. Your body needs it. Even if you have to eat 1500 calories or more a day–do that. That way, when the time comes (and it will), you will have no problem with reducing those calories once you hit a plateau.

And guess what the best part is? Breaking that plateau will be easier because you can actually reduce your calories without sacrificing your health. *fist pump* 😀 Don’t know how many calories you need to eat daily to lose weight? No worries, you know I gotcha back! Click here to find out.

  • Move Your Body

Here’s a fun fact I’m sure will shock you as much as it did me: Only 5 percent of Americans get in at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week. Yep, you read right! Don’t believe me? I encourage you to research it yourself and see that what I’m telling you is the real deal.

Along with eating a healthy diet, you have to get off the couch and get moving to burn calories and reduce belly fat. And remember all those extra calories you get to eat now? Well, you can’t just let it sit there or else it will turn into more unwanted body fat. So I’ll say it again for the people in the back… get off the couch and get moving. It will increase your lifespan, give you energy, strengthen your heart and lungs, and make you feel productive.

I know you may be lost as to what exercise you should start out doing. With all the different exercise routines that are around, choosing one that you can actually stick with can be difficult. We see other people busting their behind lifting heavy weights and automatically assume we have to do the same exact thing to match their pace and intensity. No! That’s where we have it all wrong. Don’t adapt to an exercise you don’t enjoy. Instead, adapt to an exercise you look forward to doing daily.

Zumba, yoga, strength training, swimming, skating, going for a walk/run are all good workouts. It may take a little trial and error at first, but once you find what works for you, stick with it.

And last but not least…..

  • Have Patience

Don’t just read the above picture. Say it out loud–over and over if you have to. Do whatever you need to do until you believe and know that change takes time.

You are not going to wake up one morning and magically have a flat stomach just because you had a perfect day, week, or month of clean eating and exercise. Some days you will wake up feeling super lean, and other days you will wake up only to look in the mirror and see no change. Either way, it’s okay!

It’s also okay not to do everything perfectly 100 percent of the time. You will mess up. You will eat unhealthy from time to time. And you will become unmotivated. But once again, (say it with me this time) IT IS OKAY.

When you have a tough day and start to feel discouraged, try and remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day, so the same thing applies to you. You have to be patient while you work on bettering your body and overall health.

Depending on how much body fat you have, it may take you several months or even years to sculpt your body the way you want it but don’t rush the process or get discouraged. Learn to enjoy your journey (and your body) while on the way to your goal. Trust the process. It WILL happen, in time.

Now, it’s your turn to share some tips with me! 😊 Have you lost weight recently? What did you do to find success?

    1. Omg we have the same name lol. Anyway, my advice is to keep it simple. For example…I bought a pack of chicken wings for $6 put some lemon pepper on them and baked them in the oven. Bought a bag of steamable broccoli and cauliflower for $1.44 and popped it in the microwave. Boom there’s my lunch for the week. For snacks I take fruit, yogurt, and nuts. There’s my meal prep for the week. Case in point keep it simple.

      1. Yeesss! Simplicity is the key. I eat the same things daily for all my meals, even my snacks because it works best for me. Too much variety causes confusion and you end up spending too much money 😣 Stick with lean protein such as baked chicken, fish, ground turkey, and even greek yogurt. For fruits, I like bananas, apples, grapes, and strawberries. Veggies are pretty simple for me because I don’t like too many of them lol so I usually stick with spinach, green beans, and carrots.

  1. Awesome information, it seems like common sense but so many people, including myself make the mistake of not eating enough food and not drinking enough water. Also I usually give up too soon, this article hit it right on the nail, you have to be patient, the key is to keep going no matter how many times you mess up, no matter if you don’t see changes…just keep going.

    1. It’s okay. We all struggle with eating and drinking enough. If it was that easy, everybody would be doing it lol. I’m glad you have the right mindset to never give up and keep trying even when things get hard! You got this! 💕

  2. Wonderful! I love the simplicity of it! Never would have thought it was that simple in theory. But here I getting started today! Thanks! You are such an inspiration!
